Emergency Planning for Employees

Your employees and co-workers are your business's most important and valuable asset. There are some procedures you can put in place before a disaster, but you should also learn about what people need to recover after a disaster. It is possible that your staff will need time to ensure the well-being of their family members, but getting back to work is important to the personal recovery of people who have experienced disasters. It is important to re-establish routines, when possible.

Emergency Planning and Checklists

Now that you’ve learned about what can happen and how your community is prepared to respond to emergencies, prepare your family by creating a family disaster plan. You can begin this process by gathering family members and reviewing the information you obtained in Section 1.1 (hazards, warning systems, evacuation routes and community and other plans). Discuss with them what you would do if family members are not home when a warning is issued. Additionally, your family plan should address the following:

  • Escape routes.
  • Family communications.
  • Utility shut-off and safety.
  • Insurance and vital records.
  • Special needs.
  • Caring for animals.
  • Safety Skills

I have linked this hub to my hub on emergency preparedness. I am concerned about the video on top being unable to be used. Is it possible to replace it with something else that will work?
